Phuket, Old Town

  Discover Old Phuket-Town....

In the past, on this blog, I have often expressed my attraction for this old part of Phuket-Town.

In fact, for the past twelve years, a rejuvenation programme has been undertaken by the city authorities, by local residents, and even individually by entrepreneurs who have created their own small business, namely various businesses: coffee shops, bookstores, travel agencies, guesthouses...

Many old buildings were bought back and major renovation work was undertaken as a result, modernization work in general but also and above all modernization and upgrading of electrical installations, which was not really a luxury, while keeping an old cachet. This is the case in particular of the Soi Romanee, which was once a "hot" alleyway composed mainly of brothels for sailors passing through, among others... and which has become a very popular alleyway for tourists, very photogenic, pleasant and superb with its Sino-Potuchean façades from the great era, painted in various pastel colours giving more life to the whole.

A vast programme has also been launched in this district by the authorities of the municipality in order to eliminate the horrible cabling that had taken all the charm out of this district. These works are still in progress, because the task is quite enormous... but it must be recognized that these alleys, wiring less... have completely changed face and the landscape that presents itself to the visitor is really pleasant to contemplate. What a great idea it was...
