A small village in Isan, near Khon Kaen

Life in a small Isan village in the middle of nowhere...

Located 10 km from Ban Phai, which you can read about here, and therefore about 50 km south of Khon Kaen, this small village that lives at 2 per hour is very quiet.

Each time I visit, I wander through the streets and I have fun bringing back photos that show the way of life of these simple people, rather poor but so welcoming.

They live from their small jobs of weaving, making silk fabrics, growing rice, or driving their herds of buffalos to the fields.

Working in the fields, in the middle of the afternoon under a blazing sun...
A common sight at the end of the day... when you are driving, it is not uncommon to encounter herds of buffalos that have spent the day in a field of grass...
Familiar landscape and very common in these regions
Children at the sight of a stranger... very amused and at the same time very curious...
A view into the village which shows that everything is clean and tidy.
Ah... the famous hammock that can be found under almost every house and in which I have never managed to settle comfortably...
Shortly before sunset, the village announcer gives the latest information about the village, the planned ceremonies, the events for the next day. Loudspeakers are installed throughout the village.
It's "radio-village".
The children of the village simply enjoying themselves... happy and content
Ah... a scoreboard... what do we play?
Petanque is played there every evening... until dark.
The Thai people in general are very good at this type of game.
Petanque is a very popular sport in Thailand, and the national team has already won many prizes and championships (notably the world championship).
Even the slightly older young people in the village are very smiley and welcoming.

Presentation of a newborn...

Some pictures in this village, during the presentation of a newborn...
When a newborn is presented (especially with a foreigner, "farang") it is a party in the village. Any foreigner living with a Thai woman and having a new baby at some point goes through this almost inevitable stage.

Silk making under the village houses

Under many of the houses on stilts, as is the custom here, you will find silk weaving looms. Here silk is made by hand without any machines (except for the loom).
The silkworms are cooked for 1 hour or more depending on the type...
The raw silk thread (thai) obtained after firing before any dyeing.
White silk threads are another variety... here it is a product from China, less expensive...
Le travail sur le métier
Without having seen it done, one cannot imagine the work of patience and dexterity of those who, from the cocoon to the fabric, work the silk in a traditional way. It is true that Thailand is one of the countries where silk reigns supreme.

 At the local market...

A few minutes drive away, the small local market... with an unforgettable smile from the local butcher. This is part of the atmosphere in general...
