King Power MahaNakhon Sky Walk

 The King Power MahaNakhon Tower

The King Power Tower (Thai: คิง เพาเวอร์ มหานคร), called MahaNakhon before 2018, is a 314.2-metre tall skyscraper built in 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. It is located near the Chong Nonsi station of the Bangkok SkyTrain on the Silom line.

It consists of 75 floors, which include accommodation, shops, bars, restaurants, a hotel with 154 rooms and an observation point. Its architecture, designed by the German Ole Scheeren for OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture), evokes a pixelated image, which seems to be downloading.

Its construction, by Bouygues Thai Ltd, cost $620 million and began in 2011. It was the tallest building in the city and the country when it was completed in August 2016.

The last occupied floor is 299 m (981 ft) above ground.

In April 2018, it was acquired by the King Power Group and took on its current name

In order to give you a precise idea of the height of the MahaNakhon tower (314m) and to compare with other towers of the city, I gathered on this view the 10 highest towers of Bangkok...

We can consider for the moment that the MahaNakhon tower is the highest because its neighbour on this view displays 316m but the roof is only 281m, as for the "One Bangkok" tower (436m), this one is still under construction and should be completed in 2025...

So we can say and confirm that MahaNahkon King Power is the highest tower in Bangkok...

Where is this tower?

From inside the BTS (sky train) which was stopped at Chong Nonsi station, I had this view on this modern and luxurious building and I saw these terraces sheltered by blinds... approaching the window, I realised while looking up that we were in front of the MahaNakhon tower with its Sky Walk at the top...

My hotel being two stations away, the idea came to me to return and visit this tower. Accompanied by my daughter, I told myself that being so high above the city could only please her...

Just look up to see the amazing tower at your feet...
You can clearly see on this view, the glass terrace which is located at 314 meters from where I am to take this picture...
My almost full zoom allows me to see with precision that people are walking well above the void...

When the lift doors open, you find yourself on the 74th floor, in the "indoor" part, you automatically go towards the glass windows... these windows are so clean that you don't even see them and the impression of the void in front of you is even more impressive...

From there, the 360° views of the city are grandiose.

A first view towards the west of the city from the Indoor on the 74th floor... you can see the State Tower with its golden dome on top of which is the sky bar...
A vertical view showing the BTS sky train line arriving at Chong Nonsi station

Once you have visited the indoor floor, you take the lift that you can see here at the end on the right... and which takes you to +310m, on this terrace on the 78th floor.

At the top of the tower there is a terrace where you can sit down and have a drink in peace.
And then this famous sky walk...

I'm even a bit disappointed with this picture: you don't even notice the emptiness underneath. It looks like my daughter is sitting on a huge poster on the ground...

I can assure you that underneath it's 310m of height and direct void... quite impressive!

In front of the glass terrace, you will find a kind of tier where seats are waiting for you... you can quietly have a drink, spend some time contemplating the panoramic view of this huge city.
The last terrace is at +314m... here, we are in the middle of the rainy season, the sun has made a rather shy appearance, luckily we didn't have a shower...

I imagine a sunset just over there, behind me... it must be superb !

 L'ascenseur

The lift that takes you to the top is really incredible... as soon as the doors close, the cabin is plunged in the dark and a rather grandiose animation starts all around the cabin...

I was struck by the display that we see here during our descent: 480m/mn... if we take this indication in km/h it gives about 28 to 29 km/h which is not really impressive but when we realize that to go from the 74th floor to the bottom of the building... the duration is 1 minute, there... we understand better... and what is even more impressive is the fact that we don't feel anything, absolutely nothing. It's simply fantastic.

 Pour vous y rendre

To get to the MahaNakhon Tower... nothing could be easier. Use the BTS which is easy to take and costs almost nothing.

If you are coming from Suwanabhumi airport: take the overhead metro (inside the airport) and go to Phayathai.

At Phayathai, change to the Siam line. At Siam, change to Chang Nonsi.

If you are elsewhere in Bangkok, get a taxi to the nearest BTS station, then it's easy. If you are a bit lost or not used to the Bangkok metro, the staff there will help you without any problem, they are all very friendly people.

Indication of transport time: from Suwanabhumi airport to Chong Nonsi, it takes about 1h10. (This is especially useful if you are going to the airport and have a flight to catch)

 On The Map

The MahaNakhon King Power Tower is well located in the centre of Bangkok, in the Sathorn district
