Song for my friend

In my twenty-seven years in Thailand, I've met quite a few people. People passing through for a short holiday, others who lived here like me, ‘expats’ with whom I've had more time to get to know and make friends.

As the years go by, and when I look back, I realise that many of them left far too quickly... back home, serious accidents, illness... but it was above all illness that took the lives of most of the people I loved.

When I first heard this song, it caught my attention very quickly because of the melody and the rhythm... I tried to find out more about the lyrics and I was immediately surprised because I didn't expect that these soft, strong and deep lyrics could be adapted to a rather cheerful and upbeat ‘folk’ song, to address these words to a loved one who has just left us.

When I listen to this song, it makes me think of a particular friend whom I followed, accompanied and helped as best I could right up to the end...

I could listen to this song over and over again, imagining his face...

Weeping Willow  -  Let Go

Lyrics

It's the morning after the longest night
I hold your dying hand in mine
I understand there's nothing I can do
But I'll try my best to comfort you
You look so peaceful, there's no more pain
Was that a smile when I whispered your name
I know the time has come for you to leave
And give into the force of the disease
We're all just passing through into the past
Fading footprints in a sea of sand
We have our hearts and souls
Something's we cannot hold, we have to let go
When you're gone, where you were still stays
'Cause through me your spirit will remain
I'm grateful for this chance to say goodbye
And to be here when you fly into the light
We're all just passing through into the past
Fading footprints in a sea of sand
We have our hearts and souls
Something's we cannot hold, we have to let go
We're all going places we never thought we'd go
There's a scheme of things it's not for us to know
It's not for us to know
We're all just passing through into the past
Fading footprints in a sea of sand
We have our hearts and souls
Something's we cannot hold, we have to let go
We'll have to let go
Just let it go
